Cleutz is a member of the Binghamton Civil War Roundtable, the Broome County Historical Society, the Adams County (PA) Historical Society, and the Glen Haven (NY) Historical Society.
Cleutz, a native Pennsylvanian, was born in Chambersburg, grew up in Mercersburg and Gettysburg, his family early settlers in Gettysburg and Hanover. A long-time resident of Binghamton, NY, he lives and writes in a 19th century farmhouse on the bank of the Susquehanna River, and at his summer home at Glen Haven on Skaneateles Lake.
